No.14 Men’s Swimming Closes SCAD Invite with Four More Records
Dec 01, 2012
SAVANNAH, Ga. – Posting four more school records, the No.14-ranked Saint Leo men's swimming team closed-out action at the eighth annual SCAD Invite (Hosted by the Savannah College of Art and Design), Saturday evening from the Chatham County Aquatic Center. The Lions amassed 444 points and finished in third place.
Compiling another four records on the final day of competition, the Lions closed competition with 11 all-time marks.
"Our men really represented Saint Leo well this weekend," stated head coach Paul Mangen. "We wanted to post top-10 relays and it looks as though most of them will be closer to top-five. We posted three-of-five top relay times, and won the majority of the individual events, and to do that with this level of competition is something to be proud of. We raced a ton and believe they've gained the confidence in our process of training here at Saint Leo and I've been impressed with their toughness and competitive spirit. Needless to say, I'm very optimistic for these young men. We now will shift our focus to final exams and their academic endeavors, and then get back to work with the Sunshine State Conference meet preparations."
The 200 Medley Relay team posted the first record of the day as they clocked-in at a time of 1:33.95. The 200 Free Relay also notched a program mark in the 200 Free Relay as they smashed the school's previous mark by nearly two seconds at 1:22.23.
Individually, Pawel Trenda earned a pair wins in the 200 IM and 200 Backstroke. He touched with a finishing time of 1:49.17 and set a new program mark in the 200 Backstroke at 1:47.96.
The group closed-out competition with a 400 Free Relay record time of 3:02.33. The team, assisted by Trenda, set the record by three seconds.
The Lions will return to the pool again on Monday, December 31, as they close-out the 2012 portion of their schedule with a neutral site dual meet with Pfeiffer University. Meet time is set for 11:00 a.m. from Ft. Myers. Fla.
