Lions Sink Tars in Men’s Swimming, 165-90

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's swimming team, backed by 11 event wins, defeated the Rollins College Tars, 165-90, Saturday afternoon in Sunshine State Conference action from the Alfond Pool.

The Lions were led by a trio of swimmers as Patrick Ceddia, Milton Alberto-Reuejo, and reining Sunshine State Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week Matheus Assis each earned two individual event victories. Alberto-Reuejo and Assis also notched lead touches in each relay swim to bring their win total to four apiece.

Pawel Trenda registered three wins, including one individual event, while Gabe Keown and Carlos Araque also notched event victories.

The Lions started the meet in good form as a quartet of Lions, anchored by Alberto-Requejo, won the 200 Yard Medley Relay at a time of 1:37.24.

Ceddia followed with a winning time of 10:11.83 in the 1000 Freestyle. Assis made it three consecutive Lions' wins triumphing in the 200 Yard Freestyle at a time of 1:47.64.

Two events later Araque defeated a pair of Tars to take home the victory in the 100 Yard Breaststroke at 1:03.56.

Trenda and Alberto-Requejo then earned back-to-back conquests in the 200 Yard Butterfly and 50 Yard Freestyle. Trenda posted a time of 1:55.83 in the 200, while Alberto-Requejo out touched Rollins' Michael Weinstein by five-tenths of a second at 21.42. Alberto-Requejo struck again in the 17th event of the day as he dominated the pool in the 100 Yard Freestyle at 47.23.

Assis and Trenda gave Saint Leo their fourth and fifth straight event wins as Assis took home first place in the 200 Yard Backstroke at 1.59.76, while Trenda assembled a 13-second victory in the 200 Yard Breaststroke.

Ceddia and Keown wrapped-up individual action as they each posted wins. Ceddia posted a time of 5:03.83 in the 500 Yard Freestyle, while Keown nipped Rollins' Davis Relihan by six-tenths at 54.17.

Saint Leo's 'A' squad 800 Yard Relay team bookended the Lions' day in the pool as the Assis anchored squad swam a time of 7:01.87, distancing themselves by 34 seconds at final touch.

Saint Leo will return to the pool on Saturday, November 17, entertain rival Tampa in an SSC dual meet. The meet is scheduled to get underway at 1:00 p.m. from the Saint Leo Aquatics Center.
