WINTER PARK, Fla. – Saint Leo freshman Pawel Trenda has been named Sunshine State Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week presented by VALIC, it was announced Monday by SSC Commissioner Jay Jones.
Trenda, a freshman from Oswiecim, Poland, collected two individual victories and set a program record in Saturday's season-opening win over Florida Tech. Competing in the 200-yard Individual Medley, Trenda posted a time of 1:53.47, eight seconds faster than the runner-up finisher. His mark beat the previous Saint Leo 200 IM record by 3.5 seconds.
He also posted a three-second victory in the 100-yard butterfly as he touched the wall with a time of 50.96 to lead the field of six swimmers. The showing was just five-tenths slower than the men's program record.
His performance helped propel the Lions to a 120-85 victory over the Panthers.
Trenda is one of six Saint Leo student-athletes to be named SSC Player of the Week this fall.
The Lions will resume action Saturday, October 20, when they travel to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. to challenge Nova Southeastern. The dual is set to begin at 1 p.m. from the NSU Aquatic Center.
