Men’s Swimming Downs Florida Tech to Open 2012-13 Season

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Backed by eight event victories, the Saint Leo men's swimming team opened its 2012-13 campaign with an impressive effort against Florida Tech and Lynn in Saturday afternoon's tri-meet from the Saint Leo Aquatics Center.

The eight wins led the Lions to a 120 to 85 victory. It's the third consecutive win over the Panthers.

Freshman Pawel Trenda opened the first portion of the meet as he set the program record in the 200 IM with a time of 1:53.47. Additionally, Trenda was five-tenths of a second off the program-record in the 50 Free at 50.96.

Adding to the Lions' point total was Michael Cozzi as he registered victories in the 500 (4:50.69) and 1000 Freestyles  (10:00.57).

The freshman impact was also felt in the 100 Freestyle as Matheus Assis, in addition to junior-transfer Milton Alberto-Requejo (200 Freestyle), assembled one event win each.

Saint Leo's 200 Medley Relay and 400 Freestyle Relay squads also punched wins to round out the day.

The Lions will resume action Saturday, October 20, when they travel to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. to challenge Nova Southeastern.  The dual is set to begin at 1 p.m. from the NSU Aquatic Center.

Full scores and results will be made available shortly.
