SAINT LEO, Fla. –Two months after concluding the 2011-12 season, Men's and Women's Swimming Head Coach Paul Mangen has had the opportunity to reflect on the successful season that was.
A campaign highlighted by impressive performances at the Sunshine State Conference and NCAA Championships, Mangen's men and women compiled numerous accolades which punctuated the fruitful year.
Numbers wise, the squad pulverized 16 team records, earned six SSC Swimmers of the Week awards, one Counsilman-Hunsaker National Swimmer of the Week, and a final ranking of No.22 according to CSCAA.
Both squads' SSC records have also seen a vast improvement over the previous three seasons, going from 0-6 in 2009-10, to 9-5 in 2011-12.
Mangen was quoted as saying, "As a coach, when I assess the team and the program, my aim is to build and grow from what we've done in the past. I feel we continue to hit that mark each year. What I was most impressed with was the amount of leadership and growth that can be found through our upper classmen. While we lose a great deal of talent and leadership with our four graduating seniors, our future upperclassmen have developed a strong resume which demonstrates the Core Values at Saint Leo University. We've been able to develop great leadership through dedication, hard work, patience, all with a focus on real-world preparation. As we look to solidify next fall's incoming class, I am excited about the collaboration between our current leaders and the incoming talents as this will shape the future success of this program. We continue to strive for well-rounded student-athletes as they prepare for the world post Saint Leo."
Individually, multiple Lions have earned school, conference, and national accolades. Below is a complete list of those accomplishments.
