No. 22 Lions Sweep Rollins and Florida Tech in Double-Dual on Senior Day
SAINT LEO, Fla. – The 22nd-ranked Saint Leo men's swim team made easy work of their competition Saturday morning at the Bowman Center Pool, sweeping Rollins College and Florida Tech in double-dual action. The Lions defeated the Tars by a score of 98-15, and handing the Panthers a 100-23 defeat.
The Lions took first in all 13 events, beginning with the 200-Yard Medley Relay. The foursome of Rhet Rheinlander, Derek Maddigan, Gabe Keown, and Tim Olson touched first with a time of 1:35.43, while the relay team of Troy Beck, Carl Roycroft, Joe Simpson, and Michael Marino came in second with a mark of 1:40.26.
Moving into individual events, Michael Cozzi earned a first place finish in the 200-Yard Free with a time of 1:43.28. Cozzi also touched first in the 500-Yard Free, and picked up a second place touch in the 100-Yard Free with a mark of 49.10.
Rheinlander took home first in the 50-Yard Backstroke with a time of 24.83, before taking the top spot in the 100-Yard Back with a mark of 53.81.
In the men's 50-Yard Breaststroke, Roycroft earned a top finish with a time of 27.39, touching four tenths of a second faster than Maddigan with a second-place time of 27.43. Maddigan and Roycroft swapped places in the 100-Yard Breast, with Maddigan touching first at 58.94, and Roycroft coming in at 59.65. The duo changed hands one last time in the 100-Yard IM, With Roycroft earning a top spot with a time of 55.36, and Maddigan touching third at 57.62.
Olson claimed a pair of first place finishes, touching the wall at 51.48 in the 100-Yard Butterfly, and 100-Yard Free at 46.37. Keown also earned two top touches, taking first in the 50-Yard Free with a mark of 21.46, as in the 50-Yard Fly at 23.29.
Antonio Roki picked up two second place spots, earning a time of 25.63 in the 50-Yard Backstroke, and 55.22 in the 100-Yard Backstroke. Simpson also earned a pair of second slot touches, finishing the 100-Yard Butterfly in 53.80, and the 50-Yard Fly in 24.56.
Troy Beck took second in the 50-Yard Free with a mark of 22.95, while Kieran Advena rounded out to second-place finishes with a time of 5:04.83 in the 500-Yard Free.
The relay teams rounded out the day with the relay team of Cozzi, Olson, Keown, and Beck earning first in the 200-Yard Freestyle, and the foursome of Marino, Roki, Simpson and Advena picking up second with a mark of 1:30.14.
