WINTER PARK, Fla. - A record-setting meet has landed Saint Leo sophomore Gabe Keown Sunshine State Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week honors.
A native of Philadelphia, Pa., Keown led the Lions to a 151-111 upset over No. 11 Tampa. He had a hand in three school records and posted three NCAA "B" standard times in the victory.
Keown finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.21. That mark tied the program record, was the second fastest turned in by an SSC swimmer this fall, and met the NCAA "B" standard.
He also won the 100-yard freestyle with a school-record time of 45.59. His mark, which was the best in the SSC thus far, achieved a "B" standard.
Keown joined the 200-yard medley relay team for yet another SLU record and first-place finish. The squad clocked a time of 1:34.79, second quickest among league teams this year. He also swam the anchor leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay team that finished first with a mark of 3:05.19. The time established a school record, was the fastest in the conference, and achieved a "B" standard cut.
