WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's and women's swim teams made easy work of their competition, sailing away with dual victories over the Rollins College Tars, Saturday afternoon in Winter Park, Fla. The women earned a 115-87 victory over their Sunshine State Conference rivals, while the men routed Rollins 135-68.
The Lions dominated the relay events with the men and women taking first both the 400-Yard Medley, and the 400-Yard Freestyle.
In the Medley, the women were 20 seconds faster than the second-place Rollins relay team, finish with a total time of 4:11.56. The men finished three seconds faster than the Tars in the Medley, completing the event in 3:39.57.
In the 400-yard Freestyle relay, the women touched with a time of 3:43.47, with the top men's relay team blowing away the competition, finishing 12 seconds faster than the Tars with a time of 3:11.75.
The Green and Gold saw a total of 14 first-place finishes in the individual results, with 26 swimmer earning spots in the top-three.
Tim Olson earned a pair of first-place finishes, touching first in the 200-Yard Freestyle (1:45.26) and 200-Yard Butterfly (1:58.48). Michael Cozzi also had a big afternoon, touching first with a total time of 10:04.51 in the 1,000-Yard Free, and 4:53.91 in the 500-Yard Freestyle events.
Roycroft also took a second-place slot in the 200-Yard Breastroke, finishing one second behind Derek Maddigan, who touched at 2:16.27.
In the Men's 200-Yard Backstroke, freshman Rhet Rheinlander took the No. 1 spot with a time of 2:01.84, completing the list of top finishers on the men's squad.
Maggie Walker had a big day for the women, claiming the top slot in the 200-Yard Free with an impressive time of 1:59.61. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native also touched before the competition with a time of 55.26 in the 100-Yard Freestyle.
Kaitlyn Hite also produced two top-placed finishes, coming in at 2:18.24 in the 200-Yard IM, and finishing the 500-Yard Free in 5:26.25.
Chloe Pellican brought home first in the 200-Yard Butterfly (2:16.41), and came in second in the 200-Yard Backstroke (2:21.84).
The Lions went one-two in the 200-Yard Backstroke, with Sandra Stopzynska and Kristy Marques completing the event at 2:29.38 and 2:45.30, respectively. Marques also brought in a second-place time in the 1,000-Yard Free event, touching at 11:10.04.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, November 5, when they host Florida Tech in Sunshine State Conference competition.
