CHARLOTTE, NC – The Saint Leo women’s swim team continues to climb up the ladder at the Blue Grass Mountain Conference Championships, finishing with a total of 32 points heading into the final day of action.
After not placing an individual swimmer in Thursday’s preliminary round, Mary Strand got the Lions off on the right foot placing 18th in the 400 Yard IM with a time of 4:58.16. Mindy Pierce added to the Lions total with a 21st place finish in the 100 Yard Butterfly while Erin Hotchkiss and Alisha Adams rounded out the Lions two other 18th-place finishes. Hotchkiss recorded a time of 2:02.32 in the 200 Yard Freestyle and Adams finished with a time of 1:02.15 in the 100 Yard Backstroke, just six seconds behind eventual champion.
On the Medley side, Saint Leo placed 13th in the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time 1:59.30. The team consisted of Adams, Pierce, and Hotchkiss and was anchored by Erin Lucas.
Pierce, Adams and Hotchkiss once again took to the pool in the 800 Yard Freestyle relay with the only difference being Strand swimming the first leg. The team clocked in with a time of 8:26.01 good enough for an 11th place finish.
During competition Saint Leo was able to more than double their output from the preliminary round, finishing the day with 32 points but remain in 14th place.
Conference rival Florida Southern fell one spot to 11th with 64 points while Johns Hopkins continues to lead with 457 points.
