CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Saint Leo sophomore Matt Attal was the highest-finishing Lions on day one of the 2009 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Swimming Championships as he placed seventh in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:52.02, 27 seconds behind the eventual champion, Kamel Tejada.
Attal was one of four Lions competing on the men’s side of action for Saint Leo on Wednesday afternoon. Alex Parada, Javier Beuzeville and Drew Bronnenberg finished 28th, 30th and 32nd respectively.
The combined times of all the Lion men see them in fifth-place after one day of competition.
The Lions now move to the preliminary rounds of competition on Thursday at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Club in Charlotte, N.C. The day will feature over 35 combined men’s and women’s events with titles up-for-grabs between 17 various schools.
