Tampa, Fla. (January 19,2008) -The Saint Leo men’s swim team was defeated at the University of Tampa in a swim meet involving The University of Tampa and Rollins College. The Lions were nipped by the score 57-38 to the University of Tampa and 58-27 and lost 58-37 to the Tars of Rollins College.

Tim Olson (Fr., Land O'Lakes, Fla.) lead the Lions as he picked up two individual victories including the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:48.03 and then swam past six other competitors to take the 100 Yard Butterfly with a winning time of 54.07.

Matt Attal (Fr., Tampa, Fla./Jesuit HS) was once again a bright spot for the Lions as he was able to take second in the 1000 Yard Freestyle (10:25.41). Attal didn’t stop there though as he also grabbed the second place slot in the 500 Yard Freestyle (5:02.98)

The Lions also picked a victory in the 50 Yard Freestyle from Donnie Maclary (Jr., Virginia Beach, Va.) as he finished with a  time of 22.49, more than a half second better then the next closest competitor. In team competition the Lions were led by Kyle Gramm (So., Naples, Fla.) with a team best 23.22 to put the Lions in second in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay (1:34.47).

The Lions men await the Sunshine State Conference Championships to hit the pool one last time this season on February 15-17 in Orlando, Fla.
