Miami, Fla. (January 27, 2007) - The Saint Leo University women’s swim team traveled to Miami to face the FIU Golden Panthers on Saturday.  It was the fist time in school history that the swim team has gone head up against a Division I team.

SLU head coach Cyle Sage was thrilled to have the opportunity to open a series with a Division I program like FIU.  Sage earned his Master's Degree at Florida International and celebrated his "homecoming" by leading the Lions into battle with the Panthers.

The small Lions squad responded to the challenge by winning the first three events (200 medley relay, 1000 freestyle and the 200 freestyle) before falling to the Golden Panthers by a score of 136–57.

Saint Leo will now prepare for back-to-back home meets (Saturday, February 3 @ 1 p.m.) vs Lagrange College and Darton College and Rollins College on the 10th of February @ 11a.m.  They will wind up their season at the Florida Collegiate State Championships March 2-4 in Orlando, Fla.
