SAINT LEO, Fla. – Two Saint Leo University men's soccer alumni were invited to the Tampa Bay Rowdies preseason camp, as announced by the Rowdies on January 3. Melvin Agyei Boateng and Jonathan Glenn were named as two of 19 trialists invited to participate in the Rowdies' preseason camp.
"I think it is fantastic and an awesome opportunity for these two alumni to be invited to the Rowdies preseason," Saint Leo Head Coach Keith Fulk stated. "Although I didn't have the pleasure of coaching Jonathan, I know he is a great player and will be a good ambassador for our program as he continues his career in the professional world. Melvin, on the other hand, was an athlete I got to coach and is a very talented and gifted player. I am excited for Melvin since he was one of my student-athletes for three years and I know he will give 100% to the Rowdies, and I look forward to following him along his journey."
Melvin Agyei Boateng, a 2016 Saint Leo graduate, was a three-year member of the men's soccer team where he competed in 35 games with 34 starts for the Green and Gold. The Kumasi, Ghana native was a midfielder for the Lions where he scored two goals and tallied three assists in his career.
Jonathan Glenn, a 2010 Saint Leo graduate, was a four-year member of the men's soccer team where he finished in the top-six of three offensive categories in program history. The D'Abadie, Trinidad and Tobago native ranks fifth in goals in a career with 41, fifth in career points with 94 and he sits at second all-time in career shots with 251. In his time dawning the Green and Gold, Glenn finished with 60 games played and added 12 assists to his career stat line of 41 goals, 12 assists, and 94 points.
Of the 19 players invited to preseason, Boateng is one of eight midfielders while Glenn is one of five forwards named to the list. On the current roster, the Rowdies had six midfielders and one forward.
Boateng and Glenn will join the team as they open up the preseason against German Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg on Sunday, Jan. 8, at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg at approximately 4:45 p.m.
