#9 men's soccer falls late in 2OT to #2 Lynn Saturday

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Nationally ranked No. 9 Saint Leo men's soccer dropped a heartbreaker in the final seconds of a double-overtime loss to No. 2 Lynn, 2-1, on Saturday, Sept. 17 at University Soccer Field.

The Lions and Fighting Knights were tied 1-1 heading into the final seconds of the second overtime period before Lynn's Alun Webb found the back of the net with 46-ticks left on the board.

Saint Leo ripped off 10 shots over the course of the 109:14 minutes played. Keeper Conor McElhinney got the nod for the Lions and recorded five saves.

Lynn tallied 14 shots as keeper Alexander Roth made one save.

Bafou Sanogo put the Lions in front Saturday night after Yuga Yanagisawa struck a set piece ball into the box where Sanogo put the ball past the keeper on the near post. | SLU 1-0 |
55'| Lynn's Jack Watson whipped a ball into the box finding Matheus Ayrolla, who then sank it in the back of the net. | Tied 1-1 |
110'| A Lynn free kick from just outside of the 18 came blazing into the box where it ricocheted around before finding the foot of Alun Webb. Webb buried the ball into the net past the Lions defense for the game winner. | Lynn 2-1 |

Points to Note

  • Saint Leo falls to 1-2, 0-2 SSC on the season after dropping their second straight Sunshine State Conference game.  
  • Bafou Sanogo added his second goal of the season in the first half Saturday night.

For the Opponent – Lynn

  • Matheus Ayrolla and Alun Webb each found the back of the goal Saturday night, as Webb had the game winner in the 110th minute.

Saint Leo host Florida Tech on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. at University Soccer Field.
