SAINT LEO, Fla. – The 10th-ranked Saint Leo men's soccer team captured its first Sunshine State Conference win with a 1-0 victory over the defending National Champions Lynn University on Tuesday night at University Field and advanced to a record of 7-1 and 1-0 in conference play.
Scoring the lone goal in the matchup for the Lions in the 42nd minute was Josh Davis as he found time and space for the 18 yard strike, off the far post and into the back of the net. Lions' goaltender Manuel Schoenhuber completed the match with a clean sheet and five saves.
As Lynn (4-4-1, 1-1 SSC) dominated the shot category with a difference of 16-5, the Lions defense was superb as they kept the ball from touching the back of the net. For the Lions, Lukas Cramer was changed from forward to sweeper in the second half as the defense rallied around his leadership and pushed to victory.
Kevin Shields yielded the only goal on the night while facing five shots from the Lions' offense.
The Lions will continue action as they travel to Nova Southeastern on Saturday to face the Sharks in Saint Leo's second SSC matchup of 2013.
