KANSAS CITY, Kan. – After an undefeated start to its 2013 season, the Saint Leo University men's soccer team has jumped into the latest NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Men's National poll at 17th as it was released by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America on Tuesday.
The ranking rewarded the Lions for their 4-0 start with tough wins over West Florida, Florida Southern and a comeback triumph over Palm Beach Atlantic in the home opener last Saturday. A stout defense, led by goalkeeper Manuel Schoenhuber has only surrendered three goals in 2013, along with a scoring offense that has totaled nine tallies in four contests, has piloted the Lions to the unblemished record.
The road does not get any easier for Saint Leo as the Lions travel to Rollins for a mid-week non-conference matchup with the Tars. Following the game in Winter Park, the Lions return home to face Eckerd on Saturday. Both squads topped the Lions in 2012, including Eckerd's 0-0 penalty kick victory in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament that ended Saint Leo's season.
