Herrera competed at South Johnston HS under the tutelage of Jeremy Byrd…While at SJHS, Herrera was tabbed top freshman in the state, tallying 44 goals and adding 14 assists…In 2007, he earned Player of the Week and Team MVP honors, and was an All-Region selection...As a senior, he once again earned Team MVP honors and was selected ECC Player-of-the-Year… He was selected to the 3A All-State team and the 2010 Men’s East All-Star Team…He was All-County all four years, All-Conference and All-Region three times, JUSA County Most Valuable Offensive Player, and was a 2010 Clash of the Titans East-West All-Star participant…Named Mr. Soccer in 2009…His 158 career goals currently rank him third in North Carolina history.
