SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University men's soccer team (4-3, 2-3 SSC) dropped an overtime heartbreaker to Eckerd College (3-4-1, 1-1-1 SSC) by a score of 1-0 on Wednesday, Sep 26 at University Field.
After 92 minutes of scoreless soccer, Eckerd's Mark Lee connected on a header from Matt Dolan that found the back of the net and gave the Tritons a 1-0 win.
The first half consisted of 45 minutes of physical defensive play with limited offensive opportunities for both squads. Saint Leo was only able to get two shots off, neither of which were on target. The Tritons totaled six shots in the first half, two of which were on mark.
In the second half, more offensive chances were available for the Lions, as they totaled 10 shots for the half, half of those being on mark. However, the Lions could not capitalize on any chances. The Lions' defense improved in the second half, holding the Tritons to just one shot in the period.
Andrew Hoffer had two saves on the night for the Tritons, as his record improves to 2-1. Manuel Schoenhuber had just two saves on the night, and his record falls to 4-3 on the year.
The Saint Leo men's soccer team gets back in action against Palm Beach Atlantic on Sep 29 when the Lions travel to Palm Beach for the non-conference match up.
