BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Saint Leo men's soccer team (2-1-0, 0-1-0 SSC) opened Sunshine State Conference action with a 1-0 overtime loss to No.1-ranked Lynn University (5-0-0, 1-0-0 SSC), Wednesday evening from the McCusker Sports Complex in Boca Raton, Fla.
"It was a tough loss," said head coach Keith Fulk. "Still, we played well and executed our game plan as best we could. They are one of the most talented teams in the country and feel we will mature from a tough, physical contest like today's. We need to put this loss behind us, learn from it, and begin to focus on Barry."
Lynn calculated the majority of the scoring chances during the SSC clash, posting 11 of the 12 total shots. However, despite Lions' goalkeeper Manuel Shoeunhuber's best efforts, the Fighting Knights broke through with the golden goal in the 99th minute.
After holding the potent Fighting Knights' offense to zero goals in regulation, Lynn punched home the game-winner as Kerst Lehman headed in the game-winner off a feed from Martin Wehlert during the first OT.
Schoenhuber (2-1-0) shinned in net for the Lions as he swatted away five shots-on-goal.
In total, the Fighting Knights tallied nine corners, while the two teams combine for 27 fouls.
The Lions will return home for an SSC contest with Barry University on Saturday, September 15. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. from University Soccer Field.
