Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (October 30, 2007) - The Saint Leo University men's soccer team (9-5-3) fell 1-0 on the road to No. 4 seed Nova Southeastern University (12-5-1) on Tuesday night in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament Quarterfinals in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
NSU defender Chris Pruitt scored the only goal of the match in the 28th minute to give the Sharks their second win of the season over the Lions. NSU will now advance to the SSC Tournament Semifinal versus top-seed Lynn University on Friday (11:00 a.m.).
After a close start to the match, the Sharks found the breakthrough goal when a corner kick from the right by Romain Onteniente was flicked on by Pruitt and into the bottom left corner of the net.
The NSU defense made the lead stand up for the remaining 62 minutes, despite the best efforts of the Lion attackers. NSU goalkeeper Jarod Rennick made three saves, including a diving effort from a free kick by SLU midfielder Luis Quintero (Sr., Cape Coral, Fla.).
The Lions had their three match unbeaten streak ended with the loss.
