St. Petersburg, Fla. (September 25, 2007) – Brandon Whitsett’s (Jr., Palm Harbor, Fla.) goal in the 107th minute lifted the Saint Leo University men’s soccer team (4-2-2, 2-1 SSC) to a 1-0 double-overtime at Eckerd College (7-4, 0-2 SSC) on Tuesday night in a Sunshine State Conference match.

Whitsett drove home a rebound from his own shot following a corner kick to give the Lions their second straight overtime victory.  It was Whitsett’s second game-winning goal of the season and his fifth goal overall.

Neither side could break through during regulation and after a scoreless first overtime period, the Lions finally broke the deadlock in the 107th minute.  A corner kick from Luis Quintero (Sr., Cape Coral, Fla.) found Whitsett in the area.  After his initial shot was blocked, the striker quickly fired in the rebound to win the three conference points for the Lions.

Saint Leo will travel to Georgia this weekend for a pair of non-conference matches.  The Lions will face Thomas University on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and then face Georgia Southwestern State on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
