Saint Leo, Fla. (September 7, 2007) – Sophomore Leonardo Nogueira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored the equalizer in the 88th minute to help the Saint Leo men’s soccer team (1-1-2) earn a 3-3 tie with visiting Montevallo (3-1-1) on Friday night at University Field.

Eusebio Montoya (Jr., Smithfield, N.C.) had scored two first half goals to give the Lions a 2-0 lead, but with just 22 seconds remaining in the opening half UM’s Jonathan Maloney brought the Falcons back within one.  The Lions also had a penalty save, as Brandon Whitsett’s (Jr., Palm Harbor, Fla.) effort in the 29th minute was saved by a diving Melford James, Jr. in the Montevallo net.

Maloney continued his goal scoring form in the second half, as he scored goals in the 52nd and 57th minutes to complete a hat trick and give the visitors a 3-2 lead.

In the dying minutes, the Lions pushed forward in search of an equalizer.  A long ball was flicked on by Kareem Doherty (So., St. John’s, Antigua) and Nogueira latched on to the loose ball before slotting home for the leveler and his second goal in as many matches.

Neither side could break the deadlock during the 20 minutes of extra time, as the Lions played to their second double-overtime draw of the season while Montevallo played to its first.

The Lions return to action on Tuesday, September 11 when they host Palm Beach Atlantic University at 7:00 p.m.
