Saint Leo, Fla. (September 14, 2006) – Eusebio Montoya (So., Smithfield, N.C.) scored two goals and added two assists to lead the Saint Leo men’s soccer team (4-3) to a 5-1 win over the visiting Warner Southern College Royals (2-3) on Thursday night at University Field.

Montoya’s six-point night was complemented by teammate Mikael Angesjo’s (Jr., Gothenburg, Sweden) first career two-goal performance, as the Lions scored five goals for the second time this season.  Angesjo also added an assist, while junior midfielder Luis Quintero (Cape Coral, Fla.) had a pair of assists in the match.

Warner took the lead in the eighth minute when a corner kick was smashed home by Alex Lozano.  Saint Leo was quickly on level terms, as just 36 seconds later forward Brandon Whitsett (Jr., Palm Harbor, Fla.) scored the equalizer.  The striker curled a volley into the upper right corner after a perfectly played ball from Montoya on the right flank.

The Lions took a 2-1 lead in the 16th minute when a quickly taken free kick by Quintero found Montoya behind the defense.  The sophomore calmly slotted beyond the reach of Warner ‘keeper Luis Rincon for the one-goal lead and the eventual game-winner.

SLU stretched its advantage to 3-1 just 25 seconds into the second half when Angesjo scored the first of his two goals.  The 6-4 striker controlled a pass from Quintero before deftly chipping the Warner ‘keeper from 12 yards out.

Angjeso’s second goal came in the 65th minute courtesy of a through ball from Montoya, and the Lions rounded out the scoring just 16 seconds later when the two reversed roles and Montoya chipped in the final strike.

Saint Leo will open defense of its Sunshine State Conference title with a trip to top-ranked Lynn University this Sunday.  The match will kick-off at 2:00 p.m. at Lynn’s McCusker Sports Complex and can be heard live on Internet via the SLU Athletics Audiocast Network.
