Saint Leo, Fla. (October 21, 2006) – The Saint Leo University men’s soccer team (10-6-1, 4-3-1 SSC) closed its 2006 regular season with a 2-1 loss at the hands of visiting Barry University (9-6-1, 4-4 SSC) on Saturday evening in a Sunshine State Conference match.

Barry forward Lee Yakubowich scored the game-winning goal in the 76th minute after Saint Leo midfielder Tommy Poston (Sr., Birmingham, England) had brought the sides level just three minutes earlier.

After a scoreless first half, the visitors took the lead in the 60th minute when Jason Wiles converted a penalty kick for his sixth goal of the season.  The penalty was awarded after Barry forward Marcus Reynolds was taken down in the area.

Saint Leo responded with its equalizer through Poston in the 73rd minute, as he took a long ball from Luis Quintero (Jr., Cape Coral, Fla.) and fired a volley beyond the reach of Barry ‘keeper Chris Rich.

Barry again edged in front just three minutes after the Poston leveler when a through ball from Abilio Yamane found Yakubowich one-on-one with Saint Leo goalkeeper Sam Luedke (Jr., Deltona, Fla.).  The Bucs’ striker calmly slotted his effort beyond the ‘keeper for what turned out to be the game-winner.

Saint Leo and Barry now will await the pairings for the 2006 Sunshine State Conference Men’s Soccer Tournament.  An official announcement of the pairings with game sites and times will be released on Monday.  Saint Leo finished the regular season third, while Barry finished fifth.
