Lakeland, Fla. (October 18, 2006) – The Saint Leo University men’s soccer team (10-5-1, 4-2-1 SSC) fell 3-1 on the road to Florida Southern College (5-7-3, 3-3-2) in a Sunshine State Conference match Wednesday night at Barnett Field in Lakeland, Fla.

Two goals from Florida Southern striker Patrik Dandanell in a three-minute span early in the second half cancelled out Eusebio Montoya’s (So., Smithfield, N.C.) first half opener.  A late goal sealed the points for the home side.

Montoya scored his ninth goal of the season to put the Lions in front in the 24th minute.  A long throw-in from Corey Ahern (Sr., Seminole, Fla.) was flicked on at the near post by Asmir Pervan (Sr., Simmern, Germany) and then slotted back across the face of goal by Brandon Jones (Sr., Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) for an easy tap-in by Montoya.

After the interval Dandanell went to work, as he scored his two goals in the 48th and 51st minutes to turn the game on its head and give the home side the lead.

Numerous chances in the late going were thwarted by the FSC defense and goalkeeper Matt Ward, and striker Garrett Gaa wrapped up the points for the Moccasins with a 90th minute strike.

Saint Leo will return home for the 2006 regular season finale against Barry University on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.

Saturday’s match will mark Senior Day at University Field, as the Lions’ five seniors (Corey Ahern, Tommy Poston, Asmir Pervan, Ryo Tsuda and Brandon Jones) will be recognized prior to the match.  Fans can tune in for live match commentary on the Internet by visiting Saint and clicking on the “Listen Live” logo.
