Men's lacrosse falls to Lynn, 13-8

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's lacrosse team fell to host Lynn, 13-8, in Sunshine State Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Bobby Campbell Stadium on Lynn's campus.

The Lions opened up strong offensively, but Lynn's ability to win the face-offs helped the Fighting Knights maintain possession as they out-shot the Lions, 50-27, and won 50 ground balls to Lions' 30.

How it Happened
1Q | Anthony Visintin started things off for the Green & Gold, as he ripped a shot from the left side of the cage. A huge goal by LSM Joe Serrecchia off a Charlie Kurtenbach pass gave the Lions a 2-0 lead. It was followed by a Kyle Pauwels goal off the Jake Gilmour assist. Lynn responded and scored two straight goals, getting one in a man-up situation. Kurtenbach gave the Lions a 4-2 lead off a Zach Lysyk pass. With the final seconds remaining in the period, Lynn peppered Thomas Tatarian with shots, and while the sophomore made a few key saves, with just one second on the clock, Lynn was able to find the back of the cage. | Saint Leo 4-3

2Q | Gilmour opened the period with the score off a Devin Sparks dish. The Fighting Knights were able to score two-straight goals to even the game at 5-5 with 8:22 left in the half. With 2:54 left in the half, the home squad threw in their sixth goal of the game and took the lead. | Lynn 6-5

3Q |Saint Leo senior Josh Kaufling opened up the half with a score off Kurtenbach's second assist of the day. Kurtenbach would then find Pauwels to give the Lions the lead, 7-6, with 11:39 left in the quarter. In a scramble play, the Lions looked to make a defensive stop, but a loose ball found the stick of a Lynn player who ripped from outside to tie it at seven. The Fighting Knights were able to snag another unsettled goal, giving the home team an 8-7 lead. The Lions were able to tie it up as roles reversed as Kyle Pauwels found Gilmour for the score. | 8-8

4Q | The home squad opened up the final period with a quick score off the opening face, giving them a 9-8 lead. The entire fourth period continued to go in favor of Lynn as the Fighting Knights would find the back of the net four more times throughout the final period of action, giving them the game. | Lynn 13-8

Points to note

  • Charlie Kurtenbach led the Lions with four points, one goal and three assists. 
  • Thomas Tatarian finished with 16 saves after facing 50 shots, 29 on goal.
  • The Lions went 22-22 on clear attempts.
