SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo men's lacrosse standout Matt Obermeyer has been named to the 2014 USILA Scholar All-America Team, it was announced by league officials, Monday. He is just the third player in program history to earn USILA Scholar All-America honors.
The Winter Springs, Fla. native adds his scholar accolade to his Sunshine State Conference First Team honors, as well as an SSC All-Tournament Team nod for his efforts this season. Seeing time in all 15 games for the Lions, and earning six starts, Obermeyer racked up a team best 33 goals in his 2014 campaign.
The Marketing major added six assists for 39 points overall, good for a career second best in a season. His senior season saw him earn a career high five man-up goals, as well as a man-down tally, along with 12 ground balls, to caused turnovers, 120 shots and a shots-on-goal percentage of .567.
Obermeyer wraps up his career second in all time program history with 158 points (135 goals, 23 assists), and first in program record books in goals scored (135). He is tied for first in goals-per-game with 2.5, and is fourth in points-per-game with 2.93.
In total, he has seen time in 54 games throughout his career, and holds the program record for goals in a season (38 - 2012), and goals-per-game in a season (2.92 – 2013). In addition, he is tied for the program record for points in a game with 10 (vs. Lindenwood – 3/29/11), as well as holds the program record for goals in a game with eight (vs. Lindenwood – 3/29/11).
In 1989 the USILA Scholar All-America Program was established to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities. The USILA Selection Committee selects an overall team representing Division I, II and III. The Scholar All-Americas are recognized at the annual Lacrosse All-America Banquet.
