Saint Leo Men’s Lacrosse Inks Seven Early Signees

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo men's lacrosse head coach Brad Jorgensen has announced the addition of seven early signees.  Connor Cecil, Joe Donnian, Chad Marino, Dave Moore, Luke Steibe, Matt Weller, and Dylan Yonts will join the Lions in the 2012-13 academic year, and are expected to bring big things to the team both on and off the field.

The incoming class, slated to graduate in 2016, is an eclectic group of individuals with outstanding talent.  Hailing from the traditional hotbeds of New York, New Jersey, and Maryland, extending out west to Minnesota and dipping down to Saint Leo's home state of Florida, the group will provide the Lions with plenty of fresh talent.

"I am very happy with this incoming group," said Jorgensen.  "This group of early signees is full of potential, and will improve our team on many different levels.  We have very high expectations for this class, and I am confident they will make an impact from the start."

Connor Cecil

Boca Raton, Fla.
Boca Raton High School
Cecil, a midfielder and faceoff specialist, currently plays for Coach Matt Paolano at Boca Raton High School.  He led the team to the 2011 District Championship.  Cecil also plays club ball for Florida Elite and the South Florida Swashbucklers.

Coach Jorgensen's Thoughts:  "Connor's athleticism and toughness will be a great addition to our midfield group."

Joe Donnian
6-0 | 185 | Attackman
Sewell, NJ
Clearview Regional High School

Donnian plays for Coach Rob Rieck at Clearview Regional High School.  A two year captain, the attackman was Clearview's leading scorer as a sophomore and junior, and was named Second Team All-Olympic Conference in 2011. He also plays club lacrosse for the New Jersey Shamrocks.

Coach Jorgensen's Thoughts:  "The physical build and lacrosse upside that Joe brings to the table made him a great fit for Saint Leo."

Chad Marino
5-9 | 175 | Attackman
Mt. Sinai, NY
Mt. Sinai High School

Marino, an attackman, plays for Coach Harold Drumm at Mt. Sinai High School.  Marino led his team to the Suffolk County "C" Championship in 2009, and County Finals in 2010.  Leading his team in goals scored as a sophomore and junior, Marino was also honored with All-County accolades in 2011.

Coach Jorgensen's Thoughts: "Chad is a great finisher who really understands the game at this level."

Dave Moore
5-9 | 160 | Goalie
Lake Mary, Fla.
Lake Mary High School

Playing for Coach Garrick Robinson at Lake Mary High School, Moore has been a steadfast goalie for the Rams, starting all four years.  He was named his team's "Unsung Hero" in 2009.  An All-Conference and All-District performer in both 2010 and 2011, he helped lead his team to a District Championship in 2011.  His summer play has landed him in the All-Star game in both the Team Florida and Southern Combat showcases.

Coach Jorgensen's Thoughts:  "Dave is an outstanding ball-stopper and student-athlete, he's a great addition all around."

Luke Steibe
5-10 | 160 | Defenseman
Abington, Md.
John Carroll High School

Steibe, a defenseman, plays for Coach Keith Hinder at John Carroll High School, and is a member of the Harford Mavericks Lacrosse Club.  Steibe is a three year starter, and 2012 team captain, where he helped lead John Carroll H.S. to the 2010 MIAA "B" Championship.  This summer, he was named to the All-Star game at the prestigious Top-205 Lacrosse Camp.

Coach Jorgensen's Thoughts: "Luke has done a great job of shutting down excellent opponents at every opportunity.  We expect him to continue on that path here at Saint Leo."

Matt Weller
5-11 | 165 | Attackman
Rosemount, Minn.
Rosemount High School
Playing for Coach Lance Kuehn at Rosemount High School and with the Minnesota Jaxx, Weller has been a two year captain at Rosemount.  The attackman has set school records for career goals and career points, all before the end of his sophomore campaign. He was named Rosemount's offensive MVP in both 2010 and 2011.  Weller has twice been selected All-Conference and All-Section, and earned a Third Team All-State nod in 2011.  The Rosemount, Minn. native was also honored with an All-Star game selection at the Southern Combat Showcase.

Coach Jorgensen's Thoughts: "The speed and skill that Matt plays with will make him a very tough match-up for any team we play."

Dylan Yonts
6-0 | 160 | Attackman/Midfielder
Penn Yan, NY
Penn Yan Academy

Yonts, an attackman and midfielder, plays at Penn Yan Academy under Coach Brian Hobart. With 133 career points at Penn Yan, Yonts was named to the Section 5 All-Tournament Team as a sophomore.  His junior campaign earned him a First Team All-Section 5 nod, a spot on the All-Greater Rochester "Super 16", MVP of the 2011 Section 5 Tournament, and a selection to the Nike Upstate Rising Senior Team.

Coach Jorgensen's Thoughts: "Dylan is an accomplished goal scorer who will continue to get better every day.  The sky is the limit for what he will be able to accomplish during his time here."
