SAINT LEO, Fla. - As preseason previews for the 2010 lacrosse season hit the magazine racks, one publication has picked the Lions to finish atop the Deep South Conference Regular Season and possibly get a bid into the NCAA semifinals.
The preseason No. 9 team in the country (from Face-Off Yearbook), the Lions went 11-3 a year ago and barely missed the NCAA semifinals, losing just two region games. One was to Mars Hill, who they later topped in the DSC tournament finals. The other was to the NCAA bid winner Limestone, and both were by one goal.
Leading scorer Benjamin Brigham graduated, but a boatload of starters returning make Saint Leo the clear-cut favorite in 2010, as All-League selections Kyle Marceau (25G, 20A), Luke Baruch (25, 9) lead the offense and a stellar defense anchored by Pat LoGiudice and goalie David Erdman will make it tough for opponents to find the back of the net.
SCHEDULE: Saint Leo opens its season on February 20th against Rollins, with key tests on March 13th (Merrimack), March 20th (Mars Hill) and March 27th (Limestone)
