Saint Leo, Fla. (April 23, 2008) – The Saint Leo University lacrosse team (8-8) placed three players on the 2008 Deep South Conference All-Tournament Team, it was announced by league officials on Wednesday. Saint Leo was the runner-up in the 2008 tournament, losing to Mars Hill 9-7 in the title game after a thrilling 8-7 double overtime victory over No. 9 Wingate in the semifinals.
Mark Dargon (Jr., Newton, Mass.), Ryan Pomponio (Jr., Garden City, N.Y.) and Kyle Marceau (So., Concord, N.H.) were named All-Tournament, while Mars Hill freshman midfielder Tyler Farmer was named the 2008 Deep South Conference Tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
Dargon had three goals and three assists in the two games for the Lions. Pomponio had four goals and one assist in the tournament, with three goals and an assist in the Friday semifinal victory. Marceau had three goals in the two games, including the game-winner in the second overtime against Wingate.
Mars Hill had five players on the All-Tournament Team, followed by Saint Leo’s three selections. Wingate and Catawba each had a pair of players chosen to the team.
