Gaffney, S.C. (March 11, 2008) – The Saint Leo University lacrosse team (4-2) suffered a 14-5 setback at No. 3 Limestone College (5-0) on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Lions.
Saint Leo junior Chris Storrie (Syracuse, N.Y.) led the team with two goals in the game. However, Limestone’s Brendan Storrier stole the show with a nine-point performance (four goals, five assists). The Saints also got four goals from Jake Rogalia in the win.
Limestone opened the scoring with 7:21 left in the first quarter, but the Lions quickly tied it just under two minutes later when Greg Geiss (Fr., Syracuse, N.Y.) scored his fourth goal of the season. The Saints scored the next three goals to open up a 4-1 lead, including two goals just 41 seconds apart. However, Storrie kept the Lions close with his first goal of the game just six seconds before the conclusion of the quarter.
In the second quarter, Limestone took control scoring eight unanswered goals to take a 12-2 lead into the half-time locker room.
Although Saint Leo outscored Limestone 3-2 in the second half, the result was never in doubt. Limestone goalie James Tuohy made 13 saves for the home team, including nine in the second half. Saint Leo starting goalie DJ Garry (So., Greenwood, Ind.) suffered his first loss of the season (3-1) for the Lions.
The Lions return home on Saturday afternoon to face Pace University at University Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
