Saint Leo, Fla. (February 23, 2008) - The Saint Leo University lacrosse team (1-1) fell 9-4 to visiting No. 5 Dowling College (2-0) on Saturday afternoon at University Field.

The Lions trailed from the beginning of the game and struggled to find a rhythm offensively. Dowling took an early two-goal lead in the first quarter until Ben Brigham (Jr., Scituate, Mass.) found the back of the net on assist from Mark Dargon (Jr., Newton, Mass.).

The Lions came out of the halftime locker room trailing Dowling 6-4 and had early opportunities to even the score, but failed to convert. Dowling went on to build its lead to 9-4, and continued to suffocate the Lions offensively. The Lions were limited to no goals in the second half although they held Dowling to just three in the second.

Leading the way for the Saint Leo on the game was Dargon who registered three points, scoring one goal and adding two assists. Chris Storrie (Jr., Syracuse, N.Y.) added to the Lions scoring with a goal of his own .Ryan Pomponio (Jr., Garden City, N.Y.) and Brigham scored a goal apiece in the Lions' defeat. Nick Bova (So., Eureka, Mo.) also added an assist to round out the scoring.

David Erdman (So., Mt. Sinai, N.Y) faced 37 shots in the game and made 11 saves.

The Lions lacrosse team returns to action Sunday, March 2 on the road against Rollins. Game time is set for 1 p.m. in Winter Park, Fla.
