Saint Leo, Fla. (February 16, 2008) –The Saint Leo lacrosse team (1-0) opened its regular season in impressive fashion as the Lions defeated the Savannah College of Art and Design by a final score of 16-4 on Saturday night at University Field.
The Lions got momentum early as they were able to jump out to an early 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. The momentum only grew though, as the Lions put four goals on the board in the second quarter to push the half-time lead to 6-1.
The Lions came out of the halftime tunnel on fire as they found their offensive groove. The Saint Leo attack managed to put up 10 goals against the Bees in the third quarter. The third quarter iced the game for the Lions as Savannah College of Art and Design was only able to answer with two goals in the frame.
At the end of the third quarter the Lions staked 16-3 lead. SCAD was able to get one on the board in the fourth quarter but couldn’t do anything else against the Lions’ defense.
Leading the way for the Saint Leo on the night was Tommy Bryant (Fr., Millersville, Md.) who registered three points, scoring three goals. Chris Storrie (Jr., Syracuse, N.Y. ) delivered a total of four points on two goals and two assists. Nick Bova (So., Eureka, Mo.) and Ben Brigham (Jr., Scituate, Mass.) scored two goals apiece in the Lions' victory.
David Erdman (So., Mt. Sinai, N.Y), faced 14 shots on the evening and made 10 saves.
The Lions lacrosse team returns to action Saturday, February 23 for a home game against No. 4 Dowling College. Game time is set for noon.
