Saint Leo, Fla. (April 7, 2007) – Senior attackman Ryan Harris (Vestal, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal 1:11 into overtime to lift the Saint Leo University lacrosse team (6-6) to a 12-11 victory over visiting Pfeiffer University on Saturday afternoon at University Field.
Harris led the Lions with four goals and two assists on the afternoon, while Chris Storrie (So., Syracuse, N.Y.) also scored four goals to help lead the team back to .500 for the year.
SLU opened the scoring with two quick goals to take a 2-0 lead. However, the Falcons came racing back, scoring the next six goals to lead 6-2 with 5:11 remaining in the opening half. Saint Leo answered with three straight goals to close the half and make it a 6-5 Pfeiffer lead at the break.
The Lions outscored the Falcons 3-2 in the third period to send the teams into the final quarter tied at eight goals apiece. The teams then exchanged goals in the fourth quarter with Pfeiffer taking an 11-10 lead with 5:21 left in regulation.
The Lions rallied to tie the score on a man-up opportunity with Nick Bova (Fr., Eureka, Mo.) netting the game-tying goal with just 18-seconds remaining in the contest. Harris then scored his goal 1:11 into overtime for his second OT game-winner this year.
Saint Leo will travel to Clinton, S.C. next weekend to face Presbyterian College in the final Deep South Conference game of the season. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
