Three men’s golfers earn Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar honors

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars were announced Wednesday, July 26 by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) where the Saint Leo men's golf team saw three golfers earn the scholar honors for the 2016-17 season. Ryan Gendron, a two-time honoree, was joined by first-time recipients Casey Bannon and James Jessop.

The trio were three of the 10 Sunshine State Conference golfers to receive the honors and among the 108 Division II golfers to earn the honors.

On the year, Ryan Gendron led the team with a 72.71 stroke average in 31 rounds played. Gendron's lowest round of 67 came at the Matlock Classic in Lakeland, Fla. Gendron finished inside the top-10 in five events while he recorded one top-five finish.

In 16 rounds played, Bannon finished his senior season with a 74.81 stroke average with one top-10 finish. He fired off his low round of the year, 71, twice at the Saint Leo Invitational and the NCAA Division II National Preview, both in the fall of 2016.

Jessop competed in 15 rounds on the year and finished with a 77.07 stroke average at five events. Jessop recorded a 72 three times, his low round of the season, at the Saint Leo Invitational in the first and third rounds and for the second round of the Matlock Classic.

To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
