Gendron turns in best round of day for final round of NCAA's

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Saint Leo senior golfer Ryan Gendron shot a 68 (-2) Wednesday for the third and final round of the NCAA National Championships, to cap off his stellar career. Gendron moved up 35 spots in the leaderboard after the best round of the day on the course, to finish tied 20th.

With wind gusts up to 27 mph, Gendron was flirting with negatives all day as he opened up his final round with a birdie on the 17th hole. He followed that up with a bogey to move back to even but back-to-back birdies on holes no. 2 and 3 saw him sink to two-under.

Gendron would make two pars on four and five before a birdie on six pushed him to three-under, the best anyone reached all day. A few hiccups on seven and nine saw the senior from Tampa, Fla. move to one-under with seven holes to play.

Birdies on 10 and 14 slid him back to two-under but bogey's on 12 and 15 saw him come to the final hole, no. 16, with a one-under score. Gendron birdied the final hole to end his collegiate career with a birdie and a two-under 68.

Gendron finished the national championships tied for 20th with a 216 (+6). His third round 68 was added to his first round 73 and his second round 75.

Chandler Blanchet came from behind to knock off individual leader John Coultas with a three-over 73 Wednesday. Coultas finished Wednesday's round with a six-over with double-bogeys on four, 16 and 17 where Blanchet double-bogeyed two, bogeyed three and 10 but birdied 11 to bring his score back down. Blanchet finished the stroke play with a 209 (-1) where Coultas was at 210 (E).

Barry sits atop the team leaderboard after stroke play and will head into the match play quarterfinals after finishing with a 54-hole team score of 850 (+10). Florida Southern (853), West Florida (854), Lynn (866), Florida Tech (868), Newberry College (874), Ferris State (880) and Arkansas Tech (881) will all join the Buccaneers in medal/match play
