Men’s golf fifth after round one of SSC Championships

VIERA, Fla. – After carding a team score of 287 (-1), Saint Leo men's golf finished the first round of the Sunshine State Conference Championships in fifth out of 10 teams Sunday at the Duran Golf Club. Two Lions finished under-par for the first round of the championships led by Riley Goss and Colin Warren.

The team score of 287 is the second-lowest opening round the Lions have carded at the SSC Championships in the past 11 years, with the lowest of 284 coming in 2014. 

Riley Goss led the team with a three-under 69 after carding a three-under on the back nine to finish day one tied for fourth.

Colin Warren fired off a two-under 70 to sit in eighth place after the first round of the SSC Championships after carding a one-under on the front nine and a one-under on the back nine.

Casey Bannon finished even after round one to sit in 19th place on the individual leaderboard. Through the first three holes, Bannon was one over and fell to three over before battling back to make it even through the first nine. Bannon moved to one-under with three holes to play before a bogey on seven pushed him to even, where he would finish the day.

Simon Knutsson and Ryan Gendron rounded out the Lions five as Knutsson is tied for 39th with a 76 (+4) as Gendron is tied for 41st with a 77 (+5). Knutsson shot a one-over on the back nine of the Duran Golf Club where Gendron shot even on the back nine. Knutsson and Gendron ran into trouble on the front nine as Knutsson made three-over and Gendron five-over.
