#7 Men's golf sits in 8th after two rounds of DII National Preview

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – No. 7 Saint Leo men's golf team finished eighth out of 18 teams following the first two rounds of the NCAA Division II National Preview at Reunion Resort's Watson Course, in a co-hosted event with the Central Florida Sports Commission and Experience Kissimmee.

The Lions finished with a two-round total of 578 (+2) after a first round two-over (290) and a second round even-par (288). Out of the field of 96 golfers, Saint Leo has three golfers inside the top half of the field.

Sophomore Hugo Bernard led the pack tying for fifth with a 139 (-5). Bernard kicked off the day with a 74 (+2), before storming back into the top-10 with a second round 65 (-7). Bernard's 65 tied the low round of the day but marked the lowest in the second round.

Riley Goss was second on the team as he shot a 140 (-4) for two rounds, with a 69 and 71, respectively. Goss sits tied for ninth heading into Tuesday's round.

Casey Bannon is sitting third on the team and is tied for 39th in the field with a 147 (+3). Bannon shot rounds of 71 and 76.

Ryan Gendron sits in a tie for 66th at 152 (+8) heading into Tuesday's round after two rounds of 76.

James Jessop shot rounds of 76 and 77 for a two-round total of 153 (+9). Jessop will start the final round tied for 72nd.

Playing as individuals, Gustav Tegel and Colin Warren sit tied for 72nd and 81st, respectively, as Tegel is at 153 (+9) and Warren at 156 (+12). Tegel tallied rounds of 75 and 78, where Warren had rounds of 77 and 79.

No. 4 Lynn holds a slight edge in the team standings at 560 (-16), one stroke better than No. 2 Florida Southern, who sits at 561 (-15). Individually, the Moccasins' John Coultas and John VanDerLaan lead the way as Coultas is first overall at 134 (-10), holding a two-stroke lead over teammate VanDerLaan (136).

The final round gets underway at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning with a shotgun start. The Lions will be on holes 6-9, with the two individuals, Tegel and Warren, starting on 18. Bernard will tee off on six, while Goss will tee off on seven. Bannon and Gendron will tee off on eight as Jessop will be on nine.
