Lions Get NCAA Regional Bid

Saint Leo advances to NCAA play for the first time since 2009-10

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University men's golf team learned on Friday night that its season will continue on as the Lions will take part in the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional. It marks the first time since the 2009-10 season that the men's golf team has advanced to the postseason. The NCAA South/Southeast Regional, will take place May 5-7 at the Savannah Quarters Golf and Country Club in Savannah, Ga.

The NCAA announced the field of 80 teams and 32 student-athletes competing as individuals that have been selected to participate in regional competition of the 2014 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships. The regional competitions will be conducted May 5-7.

At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals May 19-23, at The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, Michigan. The remaining eight team berths will be allocated based on the regions represented in the prior year's medal-match portion of the championships, with the maximum number of teams from a given region capped at seven. The finals will be hosted by Grand Valley State University.

Saint Leo is one of seven Sunshine State Conference schools to earn a bid to the Regional. Also continuing play is: Barry, Lynn, Nova Southeastern, Florida Tech, Rollins and Florida Southern.

Most recently, Saint Leo finished second at the Sunshine State Conference Championships held at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club in Dade City, Fla., April 13-15. The Lions turned in a three-round total of 863 (284-285-294), eight strokes ahead of No. 3 ranked Lynn, and second only to top-ranked Barry.
