Three other Saint Leo golfers join Savoie within three shots of the lead
SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University men's golf team finished the second round of the Sunshine State Conference Golf Championships posting a two round total of 569 (284-285), and sit firmly in second place heading into the final day of competition on Tuesday at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club in Dade City.
The Lions are six strokes ahead of third place Lynn (282-293-575) and trail first place Barry who shot a team total of 559 (282-277) for two days.
Saint Leo's Joey Savoie, who started the day tied for 13th after a shooting a 72 on Sunday, shot a 69 during the second round to move up to a share of 2nd heading into the final round. For the two days Savoie shot a 141.
Savoie has quite a bit of company within striking range of the leader, Barry's Adam Svensson (70-70-140). Ryan Gendron joins Savoie as one of three Saint Leo golfers within three shots of the lead entering the final round. Gendron was tied for first after the first round, and is currently in a tie for fifth with a two-day total of 142 (68-74).
Trevor Joseph is tied for 34th with a two-day total of 155 (80-75).
Saint Leo will get back to action on Tuesday, April 15, for the final round of the SSC Championships. With the potential of inclement weather tomorrow, Tuesday's final round will have a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. Savoie will be in the first group teeing off on the first tee, while Gendron is in the second group on the first tee. Ainsworth is in the first group on the second tee, and Heinz is in the second group on tee number two. Joseph is teeing off with the first group on the third tee.
