SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Saint Leo men's golf team finished the Armstrong Pirate Invite in 5th place with a team score of 886, Tuesday from Savannah Quarters Golf and Country Club. Out of the most recent top-25 poll, eleven ranked teams were present in the match, including No. 8 Nova Southeastern, No. 12 Armstrong, No. 10 Lynn, and No. 19 Florida Southern, the four schools who finished above the Lions.
Sophomore Trevor Joseph (73-69-76—219) led the effort for the Lions, finishing in 18th place individually after shooting a 76 in the final round of play on the 6,897-yd. par-71 course.
Freshman Ryan Gendron (78-69-75—222) finished his third round four-over par, and his effort earned him a placement of tied for 25th in the 90-man field.
Freshman Casey Bannon (74-75-75—222), who also shot a four-over 75, finished the tournament with a score of 222, good for a 31st-place finish.
Following closely behind was senior Chaz Heinz (76-73-77—226), who earned a finish of 36th.
Rounding out the group was freshman Joey Savoie, who finished the tournament tied in 61st-place.
No. 8 Nova Southeastern took home the trophy in the match, earning a team score of 857. The host team, No. 12 Armstrong, finished just one stroke behind the Sharks to take second place.
Fredrick Lindblom of Clayton State took home the individual prize after shooting four-under for the tournament.
The Lions will return to play on Monday, Mar. 3 when they head to the St. Edwards Invitational at the Grey Rock Golf Course in Austin, Texas. The match will feature two rounds of play on Monday with a third and final round on Tuesday.
