Joseph’s One-Under Leads Lions to Ninth Place First Round at Kiawah Island
KIAWAH ISLAND, SC – Saint Leo University men's golfer Trevor Joseph shot one-under-par in the Lions' first round under new Head Coach Chris Greenwood as he led the Lions to a 6-over-par 294 in the opening round of the Kiawah Island Invitational on Monday. With the first 18 holes in the books, the Lions are in ninth place at their first tournament of the 2013-14 season.
Opening the season on the course at Cougar Point Golf Club, Joseph led the Lions for the first time in his collegiate career. He sits in a tie for 16th place individually after the first round.
Chaz Heinz shot an even-par 72 to tie for 22nd, while Austin Gray is tied for 46th with a 3-over par 75. Newcomers Joey Savoie is tied for 51st with a 4-over 76 and Casey Bannon is tied for 70th with a 7-over 79.
Armstrong is in the lead for the team title entering the final round Tuesday, with an 11-under par 277, while North Alabama and hosts USC Aiken are five strokes behind the Pirates. The Lions are only three strokes out of seventh place.
The tournament closes with 18 holes to be played on Tuesday.
