ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The Saint Leo University men's golf team got its fall season underway today at the Jay Jennison Memorial in St. Augustine, Fla. After 36 holes of golf, the men's team sits in fourth place among the 15-team field after carding a 25-over 606.
The Lions got off to a tremendous start in the opening round, shooting a team score of 294. They followed that up with another solid score of 307 in the second round to cap off the superb start to the fall season.
Armstrong and Barry are currently tied for the lead after their opening rounds of nine-over 585. Not far behind them is third-place Newberry, who was 18-over on the day with a score of 594 after 36 holes of play. The Lions will enter the final round of the tournament seven strokes behind third-place Newberry and 16 strokes out of the lead.
Trevor Joseph led the way for the Lions with his 2-under 142 in the opening 36 holes, and currently is tied for first place on the leaderboard. With him at the top is Tyler Sluman of Rollins, and sitting in second place and even for the tournament is Armstrong's Shad Tuten.
Second behind Joseph for the Lions was Justin Foster, who fired a four-over 148 in the opening 36 holes, and currently sits tied for 11th place. Next was Lions senior Nick Brothers, who is tied for 25th place after he turned in his nine-over 153. Rounding out the Lions were Codi Daudelin and Chaz Heinz, who finished within one stroke of each other with Daudelin carding a 158 and Heinz turning in a 159.
