Brothers Saves the Best for Last; Finishes 32nd at NCAA Regional

CONOVER, NC – Saint Leo University men's golfer Nick Brothers saved his best 18-hole performance in the postseason for the final round as he jumped to a 32nd place finish at the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional at the 7,064 yard, par-72 Jones Course at the Rock Barn Golf & Spa.

After a disappointing second round card that dropped him into the second half of the playing field, he came out and shot a 1-under-71 to jump nearly 30 spots with a tournament total 73-78-71—222.

While there were a lot of markings on his first two rounds' cards, the junior kept things rather straightforward on Wednesday, notching a single bogey at No. 2 and birdies at the fifth and seventh holes.

Eckerd College's Jeff Evanier along with J.P. Griffin of Georgia Southwestern University earned the right to travel to nationals as the top two individuals outside of the qualifying top five teams.

Making the trip to the NCAA National Tournament is Regional Champion Georgia College & State along with fellow Sunshine State Conference schools Barry University and Nova Southeastern.

The teams, along with qualifying individuals will head to Louisville, Ky. to compete in the NCAA Spring Festival starting Tuesday, May 15.

Brothers will return to Saint Leo after capping off an impressive junior season as he prepares to lead the Lions into the 2012-13 season.
