MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The Saint Leo men's golf team finished 10th overall after the Lions slipped three spots in the final round of the Buccaneer Invitational contested at the at the par-71, 6805-yard Normandy Shores Golf Club on Tuesday. The Lions shot a three-round total 288-288-294—870 at the tournament hosted by fellow Sunshine State Conference school Barry University.
The top-ranked Buccaneers captured the tournament title with a final-round 279 to finish the tournament at 11-under 841. Canadian school Laval finished second at 7-under 845 after closing the 54-hole tournament with a 283.
The rough final round saw fellow SSC school Eckerd College and Central Missouri jump the Lions in the final standings after Saint Leo shot six strokes off their first two rounds' pace.
The team's individual leader was Justin Foster (70-70-72—212) as he was the Lions' top performer throughout, carding an 11th place result with a 1-under-212.
After a sub-70 opening round, Nick Brothers (69-74-72—215) finished 18th overall posting a 2-over-215.
Tied with a teammate at the start of the day, Ronnie Carlson's 73 in the final round led him to a 49th place result after posting a 9-over-222. Carlson carded a three round total 75-74-73—222. Rick Briggs finished in 63rd with a 79-70-77—226.
Finally, Chaz Heinz finished 77th, carding 74-78-80—232 to wrap up the Saint Leo cards.
Saint Leo will return to the course on Monday, April 16, when the Lions travel to Bradenton, Fla. to compete in the Sunshine State Conference Golf Championships. The two-day tournament will take place at the private Concessions Country Club and will determine the 2012 SSC Champion.
