Men’s Golf Sits in Top-Half of Field after Day One of Jay Jennison Memorial

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's golf team kicked off their 2011-12 season on Monday with a first-round 301 as they sit in seventh place in the 15-team Jay Jennison Memorial Golf Tournament held at The Palencia Club and hosted by Flagler College.

The Lions 13-over-301 has them just two strokes behind Sunshine State Conference rival Rollins College (299) and 10 strokes behind leader Armstrong Atlantic as no team broke par on the first day.

Saint Leo was led on the first day by junior Nick Brothers, who backed up his off-season play with a 1-under-71 and a fourth place standing.  He sits just three strokes behind leader Cory Griffin after the first 18 holes were put in the books.

Following Brothers is Mark Sabatino, whose 3-over-75 has him in a tie for 29th, while Ron Carlson is two strokes behind his teammate with a 5-over-77 as he is tied for 39th.

Junior Justin Foster rounded out the Lions' tallied cards with a 6-ver-78 first round, good enough for 44th place.  Sophomore Cody Daudelin's 9-over-81 has him in 64th place at round one.
