SAINT LEO, Fla. – Coach Ray Cisbani has selected Andres Maymi as the team's newest assistant coach, it was announced Tuesday. Maymi will begin his duties immediately.
A native of Dorado, Puerto Rico, Maymi comes to the Lions as an established golfer in the Division II level. Playing four seasons for Texas A&M International University in Laredo, Texas, Maymi was the top golfer on the Dustdevils and was also the team’s captain during his entire time at TAMIU.
After graduation in 2009, Maymi was invited to join the coaching staff at his alma mater where he assisted both the men’s and women’s teams. Maymi also spent the spring season with the Lions' 2011 women's golf team, who reached the NCAA South Region Tournament for the second consecutive year.
In addition to his coaching duties, Maymi was also a four-time member of the Puerto Rico National Team where he represented his country in the Dominican Republic, Cayman Islands, St. Croix and Costa Rica.
Maymi obtained his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Texas A&M International as he also holds a minor in Political Science.
Maymi currently resides in Tampa, Fla. and is close friends with assistant volleyball coach Carlos Ramos.
