Four Lions Fire Rounds in the 70's
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's golf team concluded action at the Buccaneers Invitational in 14th place, carding a team score of 63–over 915 at the par-71, 6,733 Yard Normandy Shores Golf Course in Miami Shores, Fla.
Barry University (285-274-295—854) claimed the team title as they shot a third round 11-over 284 to bring their two day total to two-over 854.
Meanwhile, Nova Southeastern's Jack Bartlett (67-75-69—211) claimed individual medalist honors as he finished the third round at two-under 69 and the tournament at two-under.
Four of the five Lions posted rounds in the 70's, including Chaz Heinz and Mark Sabatino who finished play with a third round best 75.
Junior Rick Briggs (72-78-77—227) steadily led the way for Saint Leo as he was one of three events Lions to shoot all three rounds in the 70's. He wrapped-up day two with a six-over 77, improving one stroke from Monday's second round.
Also improving one stroke was sophomore Nick Brothers (75-77-76—228) as he carded a five-over 76.
Heinz (77-76-75—228) tied Brothers for second on the team as he saved his best performance for last, finishing with a four-over 75.
Sabatino (77-82-75—234) saw the most dramatic improvement, however, concluding the third round seven shots better as he finished at four-over 75.
Codi Daudelin (79-80-81—240) bookended the quintet with a 10-over 81.
In total, the Lions collected 28 birdies, made good on 147 par attempts and finished 13th in par-five scoring at one-under.
The finish closes out the regular season for the Green & Gold. The team now awaits the Sunshine State Conference championships which are set to begin on Tuesday, April 18. The tournament will be hosted by Lynn University and will take place from the Boca Raton Country Club in Boca Raton, Fla.
