SAINT LEO, Fla. – On the eve of the 2010 NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championships, Lions’ senior golfer JP Albuquerque aims to do a Saint Leo first; win a National Championship. Round one of the finals is set for Tuesday, May 18, with Albuquerque teeing-off at 12:50 EST.
The Londrina, Brazil native is coming of a remarkable run at the NCAA Super Regional’s where he carded a five-under 208, finishing the event with the one of the best individual scores at the tournament. His efforts on the course nearly guided the entire team to a finals appearance, but unfortunately fell one spot shy.
The senior is currently placed by golf stat as the 54th-ranked individual in all of D II and has compiled an 18-9 overall mark against top-100 competition. He will need his entire skill set this week as he challenges himself against the nation’s very best, all while taking on a difficult Sagamore Golf Course in Noblesville, Ind.
In total, 108 golfers will be taking part in the Championships, including 20 teams and eight individuals and will consist of four rounds.
