TAMPA, Fla. – The Saint Leo men’s golf team holds a 15-stroke lead at the conclusion of the first round of the University of Tampa Spartan Invitational on Monday afternoon from the Rogers Park Golf Club.
Posting a team-total of 284, the Lions stand atop the four-team field, leading host Tampa and Eckerd College after the first 18-holes played at a wet and soggy field.
The Lions were led by Cole Cisbani and JP Albuquerque who both shot a 3-under-69 as they both hold the tournament lead. Both Mark McGuire and Tom Lynn shot a 1-over-73 to round out the top four.
Heading off the wet course after the first round, Head Coach Ray Cisbani seemed pleased with more consistency throughout the team, especially in the short game.
"We had a few chip-ins which always help, and with Cole hitting 17 greens in regulation and JP only taking 23 putts it takes a lot of the pressure off the players,” Cisbani said. “If we can maintain the same mindset as we had today as a group the team should continue to play well."
Saint Leo will look to maintain the lead as they take to the course early Tuesday morning to play through another 18-holes in the Spartan Invitational’s final round.
